Backup returns to PLASA Focus with new financial literacy seminar

Backup PLASA Focus

Backup Tech is heading to Leeds for PLASA Focus 2026. As well as highlighting the work it does to provide practical and emotional support to entertainment technology professionals in times of need, it will be hosting the latest talk aimed at providing practical wellbeing and financial advice to industry freelancers.

Taking place on 12th May from 10.15 to 11.00 as part of PLASA’s seminar programme at the show, and titled Supporting Freelancers – Your Health And Financial Resilience, it will hosted by Backup’s Chair Lee Dennison, who will be joined by Charity Coordinator, Jess Allan and Paul Jones from UK Live Event Freelancers. It will discuss how money worries can impact both mental and physical health more than freelancers realise, what steps you can take to help be better prepared in 2026, pointing you towards practical support and resources, include MHFA training and Financially Savvy Freelancer initiative, and then open the session up for questions and discussion.

“The Financially Savvy Freelancer webinars have proved incredibly popular, as was the seminar at last year’s PLASA Focus,” says Dennison. “We’re delighted that PLASA has given us the opportunity to do another seminar this year. With increasing financial pressures across the board and Making Tax Digital for Income Tax now mandatory for freelancers, we felt it was important to host another session that helps them gain financial resilience.”

The Backup team and its Ambassadors will also be manning stand R-E03 to raise awareness and discuss the support services it has available with those who visit the show and, from 7pm on May 12th at the Hilton Sky Bar, Leeds, PSCo will be hosting a networking evening and has chosen Backup as the charity it wishes to highlight and support.

“We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at the show,” Dennison concludes. “It’s always a great opportunity to catch up with those we know and connect with those we haven’t had the chance to meet yet. We’re also very grateful to PSCo for choosing us as the charity for their networking evening, and it’s bound to be a great event!”
